Game 9 Apollos 10 Katy Braves 0 Alex Dutka started his 2nd game in 2 days and picked up his 2nd win. Dutka threw all offspeed pitchs and really had the batters off timing. He threw 3 innings striking out 5 and setting up a double play, he also had a key rbi bunt to rally the offense. Andrew Dunn threw 2 innings striking out 4, Russell Revere threw 1 inning stirking out all 3 batters he faced. Offensively, Jose Morin had 4 hits/4 runs and 3 rbis. Eric Brown had three more hits. Russell Revere had three walks and three runs. They key play was a dropped fly ball by Braves Shortstop that made the game 3-0.
Game 8 Apollos 17 St Thomas 0 The Apollos had to loan St Thomas 3 players for this game to occur. Alex Dutka pitched two innings, Andrew Dunn, Mike Wilson and Eric Brown all pitched an innning. Everyone struck out at least two batters per inning. Joe Hicks hit a grand slam in his final game.
Game 7 Apollos 5 Bulls 4
A 25 mph cross wind was in effect for this game at Schwartz Park. The Apollos took a commanding 5-0 lead, before the Bulls rallied back to come within one run. Cory Williams pitched 4 scoreless innings, Chip Olipant came on and allowed 4 runs in an inning before settling down to throw two scoreless innings. Adan Moody made three errors at third base and make a very costly baserunning error getting picked off first base. The Apollos lined into two double plays and had no luck. Andrew Dunn had two hits and two runs, Manny Lujan had two walks and an rbi. The Apollos were limited to just three at bats per person.
Game 6 Apollos 6 Blue Jays 3
A Friday Night game at Clemmons park matched HMABL's best two teams, and runs were again hard to find. The Apollos lead throughout the game and scored their first run on Russell Revere's infield single scoring Alex Ruiz. Ruiz scored again on Bob Pfaff's sac fly. The Apollos scored three runs on a key error by the Blue Jays third baseman to break the game open. Bob Pfaff started and threw 3 innings allowing 1 run. Chip Oliphant didn't allow a run in three innings, Russell pitched the final three innings allowing 2 runs and was hit the hardest. The Blue Jays struggled with their offense finally mounting an attack in the 8th scoring two runs. Eric Brown played well for the Apollos throwing out a runner and hitting the ball well including a sac fly and a single.
Game 5 Apollos 17 Katy Braves 1 The Apollos got back into the winning ways after losing 2 of 3 with a 17-1 win over the Katy Braves.
Alex Ruiz, Anthony Conant, Ryan Ondrey each scored 4 runs with 3 hits. Andrew Dunn pitched three innings allowing 1 unearned run, Chip Olipant pitched 3 innings only allowing 1 hit and no runs.
Game 4 Blue Jays 4 Apollos 3
The Apollos finally found a good HMABL team in the Blue Jays. They got great pitching performance from Cory Williams 3 innings 2 runs, Ethan Brown 3 innings 2 runs. The offense was completely absent, Manny Lujan hit a two run homer driving in Joe Hicks in the first inning homer and singled in Andrew Dunn in the 6th for the only Apollo runs. The lights of Bayland Kyle Chapman were tough but the 6-9 Apollo batters were all hitless with numerous strikeouts. All of the Jays runs were earned with a triple and a homer. The Apollos loaded the bases in the 3rd and the 5th and didn't score. With the win the Blue Jays claimed sole possession of first place in HMABL.
Game 3 Apollos 20 St Thomas 0
The Apollos played St Thomas on Friday Night at Clemens Park and actually had a good turnout.
The starting pitchers were not allowed to come to the game due to Playoff series with Rangers on Sunday. Ethan Brown started and threw 3 scoreless innings striking out 4, Andrew Dunn threw 2 innings striking out 5, Manny Lujan threw the final inning striking out 2. Brandon Lewis had three hits hr, 3b ,1b and was a 2b short of the cycle, Andrew Dunn had three doubles. St Thomas is very limited because their roster must be students of their college.
Game 2 Apollos 14 Knights 0
Mike Wilson 3-4 with a homer and 5 rbis. The Knights had limited pitching. Joe Hicks made several great catches in centerfield and stole several bases. Keyshawn had two hits and stole 2 bases. Ethan Brown pitched 3 scoreless innings with 7 strikeouts, he attempted to strikeout every batter he faced and was wild. Mike Wilson pitched the final two innings, getting the bases loaded but keeping the shutout by getting a double play.
Game 1 Apollos 14 NABA Bayou Bengals 2 The Apollos played the Bayou Bengals with wind blowing out sharply.
Jason Von Hafen threw 5 innings and allowed two runs. He used his defense and kept hitters off balance and got great middle defense from Manny Lujan and Russell Revere.
Russell threw one inning walking two and giving up a hit before forcing a home to first double play and struck out the last batter.
The Bengals made 6 errors which broke the game open, the Bengals had good pitching and hitting and the game was closer than the score.
Johnny Golden lead the way for the Apollos with 2 hits. Andrew Dunn had 3 hits, 3 runs and 3 rbis. Wilson Rodrigez had a key double in the first inning that plated two runs and gave the Apollos a lead they would not give up.
