Sioux Falls Defeats Houston 9-1

August 19 2021 The Sioux Falls Canaries defeated the Houston Apollos 9-1, scoring in five innings and collecting 13 hits. Sioux Falls opened with two runs in the first inning, added one in the second and two in the third, then pulled away with a run in the fifth and three more in the seventh. Houston scored its only run in the ninth and finished with six hits.

Jared Henry led the Canaries with two home runs, two hits, three runs and two RBI. Zach Gurwitz went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI, while Alex Altavilla added two hits, two runs, an RBI and a home run. Max Glasser and Garrett Hope also drove in runs for Sioux Falls.

Joey Wagman earned the win after allowing six hits and one unearned run in eight innings. He walked one and struck out seven. Brandon Svoboda completed the game with a scoreless ninth inning. Houston starter Matt Sanchez took the loss after giving up seven hits and six earned runs in four innings, with four walks and one strikeout.
