Sioux City Rolls Past Houston 16-4

July 25 2021 The Sioux City Explorers defeated the Houston Apollos 16-4 behind a 19-hit attack at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark. Sioux City scored in five innings and led 10-2 after two frames before adding two runs in each of the fourth through sixth innings. Houston finished with 12 hits but could not close the gap.

J. Sermo powered the Explorers with two home runs, two hits, three runs and four RBI. S. Zawada went 5-for-6 with two doubles, five hits and two RBI, while L. Tolbert added three hits and an RBI. J. Monge and B. Tiberi each had three hits and three RBI, and C. Clare scored twice with two hits and an RBI.

Sioux City starter J. Riley allowed two runs on four hits in two innings. T. Koch followed with one run allowed over 2 1/3 innings, and winning pitcher Brandon Brosher held Houston scoreless on one hit in 1 2/3 innings while striking out three. N. Gercken and M. Kuhns each added a scoreless inning to complete the victory.

Houston received two hits and two RBI from I. Yetsko, while A. Gonzalez and Y. Peguero each collected two hits. Kenny Pierson took the loss after allowing eight earned runs on six hits in 1 1/3 innings, and Houston used four pitchers in the game.
