Milwaukee Milkmen Hold Off Houston Apollos 3-2

July 10 2021 The Milwaukee Milkmen defeated the Houston Apollos 3-2 at Franklin Field, overcoming a two-run second inning by Houston and scoring the deciding run in the sixth. The Milkmen finished with five hits and no errors, while Houston also collected five hits but committed two errors.

Houston took a 2-0 lead in the second on Ian Yetsko’s two-run home run. Yetsko went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Aaron Takacs also had two hits for the Apollos. Milwaukee answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning, including a solo home run by C. Correa, who finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs. T. Martin added a double, and A. Hill drove in Milwaukee’s third run in the sixth.

Myles Smith earned the win for Milwaukee after allowing four hits and two runs over six innings. He walked six and struck out four. K. Kowalczyk and Z. Hartman each worked a scoreless inning before Ryan Boyer recorded the save with a perfect ninth that included one strikeout.

Houston starter Abdallah Aris took the loss, allowing five hits and three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings while striking out nine and walking three. Alex Merithew and Ian Codina combined to keep Milwaukee scoreless over the final 2 1/3 innings, but the Apollos could not rally after the Milkmen moved ahead in the sixth.
