Kane County Edges Houston in 11 Innings

July 8 2021 The Kane County Cougars rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Houston Apollos in 11 innings. Houston scored its only run in the fourth inning, while Kane County tied the game in the eighth and scored the winning run in the 11th. The Cougars finished with nine hits and the Apollos had seven; neither team committed an error.

Blake Berry led Houston with two hits, including a solo home run, and drove in the Apollos’ only run. Jordan Pontious and Brian Dansereau also collected two hits apiece. Kane County’s Nick Santoro went 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI, while J. Rolette added two hits and scored once.

Houston starter Connor Berry held Kane County scoreless over six innings, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out three. Kane County starter T. Viza worked seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and recording 11 strikeouts. Andy McGuire earned the win with one-third of an inning in relief, and Derrick Sylve took the loss after allowing the deciding run in 1 2/3 innings.
