July 6 2021 The Kane County Cougars defeated the Houston Apollos 3-0 behind a strong pitching performance at Northwestern Medicine Field. Kane County collected seven hits while holding Houston to four hits and one errorless game of its own.
Kane County broke through with two runs in the third inning and added another in the fifth. A. Ray, G. LaValley and M. Karaviotis each drove in a run, while Karaviotis went 2-for-4 and J. Rolette finished 2-for-3 with two doubles. Ray also scored a run and reached base twice with a hit and a walk.
Josh Tols earned the win after allowing one hit and no runs over seven innings. He struck out eight and walked two across 105 pitches. Kane County’s bullpen completed the shutout, with C. DeLeon, K. Huckaby and Mark Seyler combining for two innings; Seyler recorded the save.
Houston starter Matt Cronin took the loss after permitting seven hits and three runs, two earned, in 5.1 innings. He struck out two and walked two, while the Apollos went 0-for-30 as a team with 10 strikeouts.
