August 16 2017 The Tucson Saguaros defeated the Houston Apollos 15-9 after scoring 10 runs over the final three innings. Tucson finished with 11 hits and five errors, while Houston collected 10 hits and committed four errors.
Houston built a 7-2 lead through six innings with three-run rallies in the fifth and sixth. Tucson answered with four runs in the seventh, then broke the game open with six runs in the eighth before adding three more in the ninth. Houston scored twice in the seventh but was held scoreless in the final two innings.
Nathan Etheridge led Tucson with three hits and four RBI. T. DeBonville added two hits and three RBI, while C. Caffery drove in three runs. G. Mason and J. Prockish each scored three times, and Tucson also benefited from a double by Caffery and a triple by Etheridge.
Houston’s E. Gomez hit the game’s only home run and finished with one hit, two runs and two RBI. D. Towler added two hits and three RBI, while R. Goldsmith and C. Briscoe each had two hits.
Jay Causey earned the win after allowing two runs on two hits in one inning. Martin Alcoverde recorded the save with two scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out two. Houston starter D. Towler worked six innings and allowed two runs, but H. Williams was charged with the loss after facing three batters and surrendering three runs without recording an out.
