The Apollos played the Georgia Barons in historic Rickwood Field.. It was a battle of both 4-0 teams in the 18+ Championship
Mike Wilson hit 4 doubles and scored three runs. Mac Goodwin hit three singles driving in Wilson twice. Josh Krikstian got three hits. Richard Schmidt went 2-4 scoring two runs and Alex Sample got his first career hit for the Apollos... The story of the game and the tournament was Mike Averalo in one game including one off of the top of the scoreboard at Rickwood Field. He struck out thirteen batters and threw all nine innings dominating the Barons. The Barons were solid defensively and didn't make errors
BAMA Bash Game 4 Semifinals Apollos 9 Birmingham Knights 0The Apollos scored 6 runs in the first inning and 3 runs in the second inning.
The Kinghts catcher then proceeded to get into an argument with the umpire and the Knights pitcher threw a fastball that hit the umpire flush in the mask.
The catcher did not attempt to catch the ball. The umpire ejected the catcher and pitcher and the Knights forfeited already down 9-0. This was huge as it saved all of the Apollos pitching. Mike Averelo pitched three innings and homered. Mike Wilson made two outs in one inning
BAMA Bash Game 3 Apollos 8 Atlanta Beast 7The Apollos had to play three games in one day and this one didn't start until 11:45 PM at night. With a 2-0 record and playoff round advancement almost assured the Apollos sent Josh Krikstain to the mound for his second start of the day. Krikstian pitched three innings allowing 3 runs but the defense missed on a sure double play that would have ended the inning. He was removed for Justin Loftin who allowed 4 runs in 2/3 inning before being removed for Kyle Spangler. Spangler pitched 1-1/3 innings striking out 4 batters preserving the Apollos runs allowed so they could advance in the event of a tie breaker. Mike Wilson and Mac Goodwin hit back to back double in the first inning scoring a run. Tim Brown reached on a error in the second inning scoring a run. Mike Wilson singled and Manny Lujan doubled scoring two runs in the third. That left the game 7-4 going into the bottom of the 5th which was declared the last inning Kyle Spangler drew a walk. Josh Etheridge grounded out. Tim Brown singled. Tommy Denson struck out. Then the Apollos luck began. Kevin Hall hit a ball right through the first basemans legs scoring Spangler. Chris Schmidt walked leaving the bases loaded. Andrew Dunn then hit a seeing eye single that got past the left fielder scoring the tieing run then the catcher cut the ball off and over threw 3rd base allowing the winning run to score. The Apollos got excellent first day hitting from Tim Brown, Mike Wilson, Mac Goodwin and Manny Lujan.
BAMA Bash Game 2 Apollos 11 Huntsville Stars 4The Apollos drew the luck of facing the Huntsville Stars ace left handed pitcher and found themselves
in a scoreless game with Alex Sample pitching and the defense making key double plays. In the third inning Adam Spencer was hit by a pitch and stole second
and Mike Wilson doubled him in, Wilson then scored on Manny Lujan's single to give the Apollos a two run lead. That lead held until the 4th with Huntsville scored 4 runs after a two out error by Andrew Dunn. Justin Loftin came on to relieve Sample and didn't allow another run for 3-1/3 innings. The Apollos scored another run on Michael Arevealo's rbi single scoring Tim Brown. Then in the 5th the Apollos broke the game. Andrew Dunn lead off with a hit and went to third on a perfect hit and run by Mike Wilson. Chris Schmidt grounded into a fielders choice getting Dunn in a run down. Then Manny Lujan drove in two runs with a single. Mac Goodwin reached on a error. Tim Brown doubled in a run. Josh Krikstian singled in a run. Michael Arevealo doubled in two runs. This chased their starter from the game. Tommy Denson droved in two runs off the reliever. Adam Spencer then singled. Andrew Dunn hit a sac fly. Mike Wilson then doubled. chris Schmidt walked and Manny Lujan fly out to end the 8 run 8 hit rally that sealed the victory for the Apollos. Huntsville's left handed pitcher was one of the better ones around but after going through the lineup the Apollos figured out and made adjustments.
BAMA Bash Game 1 Apollos 8 Gwinnett Red Sox 7
This was a true battle to the end in which the the Apollos struggled early and found themselves in a 4-0 hole facing the Red Sox left handed ace. Mike
Wilson hit two homers including a crucial game tieing homer coupled with Mac Goodwin's two doubles and Michael Arevealo's game winning bases loaded hit
proved to be enough to get the Apollos over the Red Sox.. Josh Krikstian pitched allowing 5 runs in 3-1/3 innings of work.
He was removed for Mac Goodwin who gave up one run in one inning of work. Justin Loftin gave up two runs in one inning of work.
Kyle Spangler entered the bottom of the 6th which proved to be the last inning, he got one out before walking three batters however Michael Arevealo came
on and struck out both batters with the bases loaded t preserve at least a tie. Then in the bottom of the inning Mac Goodwin lead off the innings with what
appeared to be a game winning homer but the rules state a ball in the catch net is a ground rule double. Tim Brown then successfully bunted for a hit
leaving men on first and third with no out. Josh Krikstain then successfully bunted them into scoring position. Kyle Spangler was intentionally walked.
Kevin Hall struck out leaving Michael Arevealo with bases loaded and two outs. He successfully delivered a key single to win it for the Apollos.
Afterwards teams were separated because of jawing. Kyle Spanlger was ejected. This was a huge win despite many mistakes the Apollos made walking 9 batters
and making errors they were able to get the opening victory.The Bama Bash began with hard rains canceling Friday and Saturday Morning games but the weather improved..
